The Californian company Solo Advanced Vehicle Technologies, AVT onlywas founded only last year, but, despite that, in the last few hours it has shown the design of the electric truck it is planning, called SD1.
AVT SD1 only it is a battery-powered electric truck designed for long journeys and to become autonomous in driving as soon as possible; there is talk of at least 800 km of autonomy with a single charge, with the possibility of having a autonomous driving system to take the truck to its destination.
Thanks to the design conceived by Solo AVT, it is not necessary to have a human pilot inside the cabinwhile the design devoted to aerodynamics ensures the lowest Cx coefficient ever seen on a truck of this size; all this will then be combined with low rolling resistance tires to ensure maximum energy efficiency.
According to what was released by Solo AVT, the new SD1 will be driven by several electric motors positioned on the various axes, for a total power of 600 kW which will allow you to tow even the heaviest loads: Only AVT was keen to underline how its SD1 is compatible with current standards regarding trailers and also for loading docks existing.
Returning instead to the question of autonomous driving, Solo AVT has designed a aerospace-type redundant system that guarantees maximum safety during autonomous operationsall supported by an external lighting system to communicate with pedestrians and other road users, using acoustic and light signals.
At the moment Solo AVT has not revealed the timing for the arrival on the market of SD1, and the news is not surprising considering that today we are still far from developing autonomous driving systems capable of operating without any type of human intervention; we will see if Solo AVT will be able to burn over time other realities engaged in the development of autonomous driving systems for the transport of goods.
