FORESTVILLE – School business executive Keri Pelleter presents some facts and figures related to the school’s upcoming budget vote next week.
Pelleter began by explaining various expenses within the budget for the next year, including a new door access system, LCD panels to replace the old smart board, security camera upgrades, and additional equipment for the school’s esports lab. The third-floor hallway at the high school will also be renovated, just like the second-floor hallway was renovated last year.
As for the tax levy, Paylater said the budget was designed to increase the amount to the calculated limit.
“This budget was prepared on the assumption that we are going to increase the tax levy to the calculated limit, as we have done in previous years,” Pellater said.
Tax levy growth in the district totals $140,607 over the previous year, an increase of 3.44% over the previous year, to be split between taxpayers and tax paying entities.
As for the budget number, the proposed number for the 2022-23 school year is $13,508,760, an increase of approximately $500,000 from the previous year’s budget of $13,028,780.
Pelleter also noted that the budget includes the purchase of two school buses, one of which is a 24-passenger, wheelchair accessible bus, while the other is a 30-passenger bus.
Pellet detailed state recommended increases in the price of school lunches, although those prices have not been finalized. These changes potentially include raising the price of primary lunches from $2.05 to $2.15 and middle/high school lunches from $2.30 to $2.40. Breakfast will cost from $1.55 to $1.65 at each school, while adult breakfast will increase from $2.71 to $2.86 and lunch from $5.21 to $5.44. Pelleter stressed that these are the recommended numbers, and that the district will continue to monitor participation, the quality of food, and if they should increase prices.
The budget vote will take place on Tuesday, May 17 from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the elementary school cafeteria, and those who go to vote can help a few different school organizations. The class of 2023 will have a bake sale, while the Forestville Trap Team will host a chicken barbecue from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., priced at $12 per dinner.
